El más icónico de estos instrumentos fue el expansor Roland MKS-20, que introdujo el motor de sonido SAS (Structured / Adaptive Synthesis).

Estos instrumentos no eran perfectos, especialmente para los estándares modernos, pero en ese momento era increíble tener teclas reales que se podían tocar en una unidad liviana y portátil. El muestreo digital ha avanzado enormemente desde esos días, haciendo que estas unidades sean en gran medida obsoletas, pero nos encanta su sonido lo-fi. Algo sobre el muestreo digital temprano los hace únicos, incluso hoy. De la vieja escuela, un poco cursi y muy diferente de los instrumentos actuales, pero familiares y llenos de carácter: los sonidos de estos módulos digitales antiguos de los años 80 y 90 están cerca de nuestros corazones y ahora se conservan para siempre.

Back in the ‘80s many synth manufacturers began releasing keyboards and modules dedicated to acoustic and electric piano sounds. The most iconic of these instruments was the Roland MKS-20 expander, which introduced the SAS (Structured / Adaptive Synthesis) sound engine.

These instruments weren’t perfect, especially by modern standards, but at the time it was incredible to have real, playable keys in a light and portable unit. Digital sampling has advanced tremendously since those days making these units largely obsolete, but we love their lo-fi sound. Something about early digital sampling makes them unique, even today. Old-school, a bit cheesy and a far-cry from today’s instruments, but familiar and full of character – the sounds of these vintage digital modules from the ’80s and ’90s is close to our hearts, and now preserved forever.
